Jumpstart save game empires

Beitrag von UesugiKenshin »

Here are some examples of jumpstarted save game positions of various difficulty levels.

The first example is the Khaoreon empire (Klingons) in turn #214 who are the sole major race among a variety of minor races plus various anomalies (all other major races have been turned off). Essentially this replicates the early days of the Klingon empire where they were unopposed by the Romulans or the Federation.

The galaxy size is set to irregular and 40x40 ie the largest and at the Easy setting. They have defeated many minor races but face the Borg whose home system is known (see the diplomacy screen).

Their accumulated credits are 7400 with a thriving income and the infrastructure quite laid out.

In terms of ground troops, they have quite a few, but they have only developed one major military shipyard...which must be addressed soon.

This is an appropriate beginner save game position rather than starting with a barebones empire in turn #1. Import the files on your Android device. Then load them. One caveat is that you must play continue (each time you reload) as otherwise the game ends as all other major races have been eliminated. Thus you have a "sandbox game". This is an excellent way for a beginner player to try many things as the following things already exist.
1. A somewhat developed tech tree
2. An adequate treasury as a cushion
3. Both individual and fleet ships
4. Various ground forces
5. Many subjugated races with their own unique tech and units (later)
6. Many planets under Klingon control
7. A well explored map but much more to do as terraforming develops

Hints
Because you have such excellent cashflow and a larger starting treasury that is seven times larger than the default, then you can hurry beginning infrastructure in the newer sectors under your control.

The minor AI races may leave their home sectors poorly defended by ships or fleets while they explore and so the Klingons might easily seize upon attacking with one bold stroke versus trying to attack in a brute force manner when the fleet is back in their home sector.

Commentary
Advanced players would likely be bored as the Klingons don't have to face other major races and they have also carved out a corner of the galaxy and so know the attacks will likely only come from two sides (unless the BotE engine spawns in an anomalous attacking entity).

The manager has been turned on for most if not all sectors. The Klingons are not given to dishonorable spying and sabotage as they hate the Romulans, thus though there are security infrastructure upgrades in place, I haven't raised the values yet. You may choose to do this to experiment as you will. There is an excess of food to protect beginner players from "famines".

The public approval is at 1940 given so many victorious invasions of minor races. Several ships were lost due to overconfident blunders (even using fleets). Had a Klingon commander actually done that on a realistic level, he would have been removed for incompetence.

Edit
Downloaded the save game and reloaded it to ensure it works.

By all means, add your own save games so other players can effectively try scenarios. Please include just as many details as I did in the first post. My plan is to first create other similar "sandbox scenarios" first as the other empires (even doing an evil Terran Alliance ala the Star Trek and Enterprise and Deep Space Nine episodes).

Then do 1 x 1 save games where it's akin to a Federation vs Klingon along a Neutral Zone.

In my opinion, if compared to the actual Gamma and Alpha quadrants in Star Trek, you should never have all six empires turned on as there is an inadequate map array to support all six empires to be analagous to their counterpart empires in Star Trek. Plus of course barring a set wormhole, the amount of travel time would make it prohibitive to play as the Cardassians and the Dominion (Omega Alliance).

A modder could create a monsterously overpowered Borg in one corner with just one sector or a few sectors, and it would take enormous effort to defeat them. (I've been working in the flawed Civ2 engine with an existing Star Trek mod which has a basic script where if by a miracle a massive armada attacks and successfully invades the homesector, all other Borg sectors collapse. Thus those systems can then be colonized.

Pop-rushing and steamrolling are hoary player and AI exploits which unrealistically attempt to gain as much territory as quickly as possible. Historically this largely occurred during manifest destiny in America. It's a very unsatisfying hollow victory.

It allows a player to easily win but is it ultimately unsatisfying? What is winning anyway? If it defeating the AI by denial of resources or a series of white knuckle, hanging on by your fingernails in compelling too close to call battles? I prefer not watching a blowout basketball game where an amaterish undisciplined team is trounced by huge differences in prowess.

Preseting a genuine campaign which emulates the Star Trek map means whoever invades first likely loses as they defeat their enemy, but it's a pyrrhic victory that then is exploited by a wise experienced 3rd party veteran strategist who then easily defeats such foolish zealotry. That likely is what the Romulans hope happens as the Klingons defeat the Federation, but doing so then wastes too many ships and induces the noble deaths of fallen admirals. They mop up the survivors and the entire galaxy falls.

Huge Dominion style wars take time and generally require humans playing humans through multiplayer. 30,000 ships in the engagements!

Here is a save game position for the Klingons on the easy level and at turn#233.
Der Dateianhang bote0001.png existiert nicht mehr.
Der Dateianhang bote0001.sav existiert nicht mehr.
The map array is 40x40 at 100% so the maximum with 33% owned by the minor races as homesectors. There are 5% spatial anomalies but no anomalous entities.
Der Dateianhang Screenshot_2020-04-05-00-26-34.png existiert nicht mehr.
Infrastructure is well built, and the economy is huming along with good cashflow and generally all sectors have titanium. The research level is at six and balanced and some special tech has been gained.
Der Dateianhang Screenshot_2020-04-05-00-27-01.png existiert nicht mehr.
The Klingons are in fourth place overall and in terms of the military are in 3rd place.
Der Dateianhang Screenshot_2020-04-05-00-26-48.png existiert nicht mehr.
No battles have taken place and the Klingons control 29 sectors with excellent terraforming and adequate farming for the most part.

In terms of ships here is what they can build and mostly they have colony ships that are shielded and armed, but several troops ships and troops, and a few cruisers and scouts. They can build all but the best two elite troops.
Der Dateianhang Screenshot_2020-04-05-00-27-13.png existiert nicht mehr.
Der Dateianhang Screenshot_2020-04-05-00-37-01.png existiert nicht mehr.
Der Dateianhang Screenshot_2020-04-05-00-37-39.png existiert nicht mehr.
It is a good starting place save game position as the Klingons are in the southeast spot on the map. They just now encountered the Cardassians to the north. Intel is active but not assigned...yet. The Dominion has been absorbed into the Federation but that was in turn #180 so may have changed.

Note that the Klingons face both the Xiborg and the Delarians , and neither are slouches. Both could make dreadnaughts since early on and won't be pushovers.
Der Dateianhang Screenshot_2020-04-05-00-37-52.png existiert nicht mehr.
Since it's the easy level, likely all but the Xiborg and the Delarians can be easily subjugated and suddenly your spot in terms of overall empire would dramatically change over the next 20-30 turns on ground invasions.

That Klingon save game file could be used to get lots of cash very fast to become omnipotent. It might be fun just once since so many are stuck at home (due to social distancing and the pandemic) and then the Klingons throw honor out the window and just trash every minor race and the do genocide on every other race.

I think nothing is more boring than being like Superman. Which is why The Matrix was so awesome and followed with such a turkey in The Matrix Reloaded. Omnipotence is boring.

You'll have to read the trade topic and the intelligence vs counterintelligence topic to understand how to do it. It ain't rocket science.

Eventually I'll learn enough of the game mechanics where on the single game setting, I can set up one empire to have the best infrastructure at a certain numbers of turns. Or if the multiplayer can be released and I can create a series of presets for 200,300,400 turns, then do all six empires with appropriate levels of trade and diplomacy and intelligence operations (likely creating the infrastructure but not starting any sabotage missions). But then the save game would have to then be able to be played as a multiplayer or single player save game.

Those are things I myself would like to play rather than start in turn #1. I want to create scenarios with strong but beatable minor races where within 10-20 turns (say at turn #310), you can begin hostile activities and start probing Federation space or probing borderlands of contested territory. That sounds fun. Most want to start essentially roleplaying conflict resolution of some kind within 10-20 turns.

Whereas turn#1 is about building the homesector and starting colonies which is interesting but not compelling.

You could set the expansion rate higher which is reflective of faster warp speed travel, but then instead of empires you would have too many sectors in contested territory and interstellar war too soon before established economies are developed and adequate infrastructure to create ships.

By necessity such presets need at least resource routes to exist for routine infrasture building through domestic trade between the sectors of an empire and likely established diplomatic relations through trade such that all relations with the minor races are not hostile but some have trade routes.

Advanced turn #400 games likely have a rate of expansion higher than normal so they can penetrate deep into territory and not just probe around ie then the Romulans can seriously challenge the Klingon empire.

A playable scenario on a fully populated map at the maximum size requires each empire owning about 40+ sectors so they can generate sufficient ships to have fleet battles. Ideally all six empires exist and are robust in turn 400+. It woudn't be fun if some have been eliminated by then as that violates Star Trek canon. You want massive fleet battles to be plausible by turn 500+ with six or more ships in each fleet. Lots of lesser ships have been eliminated as a hundred year gap in tech has occurred.

Consider the battle of Wolf359 about 2367 that had 39 Federation ships essentially fighting in one fleet against one Borg cube.
